I think you are missing an important distinction. As several have pointed
out, it has been clear for some time that his last show would be in Mid
December, when he usually takes his Christmas Break. Lots of people
"figured this out". But he himself had never said it on his show - for
reasons which to me at least are unclear, as I noted earlier.

So, re your header, it is not really "news" that his last show will be in
mid-December; it is news that he announced the date on his show.
