I wrote the long post to be general. It's a product of seeing all the comings and goings in late night these days, and specifically of remembering how I appreciated Letterman as an alternative to Carson's well-oiled machine days, and how someone who started watching Dave in the last 15 years might feel the same way that I did about Johnny. There's clearly more to that era of a show than disinterest.
