I think there's room for a non-cynical, "old-fashioned" talk show, but that
Fallon doesn't have the chops to do one (I think Colbert does, but won't).

The biggest problem with Fallon is that his stock in trade is his apparent
likeability (I don't find him that way, but I'm not in the demo), and he
can't/won't do anything that jeopardizes that. (Well, that and his overall
lack of talent -- musical mimicry aside.)

I'll give his TS credit, though. Their mission seems to be to create viral
videos, and they've been successful doing that, even if the numbers are way
down from what Leno was pulling -- and makes the decision to can Conan even
more -- well, I was going to say "baffling," but Lorne is part of the
equation, so it makes complete sense. Regardless, I'd always rather watch
someone prickly and innovative than someone who's desperate to please, so
I'm having nothing to do with either Fallon or Corden, who has somehow
managed to become a bargain-basement Fallon.

The lesson in both cases? Have someone powerful at the network love your
work.
