Maybe because it's more true this year than any other, but we don't do the
party leadership contests like what Labour is doing right now in the UK.
Members of the party national committees elect the chairs, rather than the
party membership as a whole. And those party leaders are rarely Congressional
leaders (or the President), at least at the same time.
Yes, I live in the DC area, otherwise I likely wouldn't know this.

I'm torn. This morning on my drive I heard that the US presidential debates
are tonight -- "ooh, that might be interesting to watch" I thought. Then I
also learned that the Canadian debates are tonight (yes, we are in an election
now).
I think I might pick the Trump one to watch.
Regardless, I have to make sure the DVR is set to record all of Stewart tonight
:)
