The new season will also have fewer live shows (13) and start a month later
than is typical.  Keillor will apparently do the customary Minnesota State Fair
show in September, but it may or may not be broadcast.
I have no idea how/if the transition will work  Thile has enough history with
the show, and with many of the frequent guests, that it may not sound *that*
different musically.  He had the good sense not to mimic Keillor in the skits
he performed while guest hosting, but I'd be surprised to see any regular
characters emerge from this like Keillor's Guy Noir or cowboy Lefty.  Thile's
contract is for a year, with options, so if PHC limps into the sunset, it
doesn't have to take long.

Mark Jeffries, June 29th 2015:
The 72-year-old host and creator of public radio's "A Prairie Home Companion"
says that the new season starting in the fall will be a transitional period as
he turns the show over to bluegrass mandolinist Chris Thile of Nickel Creek,
who filled in twice last year--by then, the show will lose most of its comedy
segments and become primarily music, which will be interesting to see how it
plays out, considering that folk music audiences are aging rapidly--will
American Public Media be leaning on Kellior's Prairie Home Productions to make
the guest lists more adult album alternative-friendly (like WFUV New York, KCRW
LA, WXPN Philly, APM's the Current in the Twin Cities, etc., none of which
carry the show [although the other two APM stations in the Twins do])?:

It's not that APM already has an alternative out there, with "Wits," a weekly
mostly-improv comedy show that originates from St. Paul's Fitzgerald Theater
(same theater where "Prairie Home" originates), which books AAA musical guests.
It's on a respectable number of stations, but of the Big 3 markets it's only
on APM-managed KPCC in LA.

Keillor's (Hollywood) finale is in the "can," ready for Saturday air...  we'll
still come across him in, f'rinstance, that annoying e-mail blast Mr Bezos
sends out in behalf of the WaPo, where GK is a columnist...
