In New York City, at least, the local news shows run as long as they would
if they'd started on time when it's the late (11 p.m.) news. CBS's Thursday
night football is hell on the Late Show.

Seems to me without benefit of research that the Sunday evening (6:00
network, 6:30 local) newscasts aren't scheduled in the first place when
there's football or golf.
