At least with the NBA or IndyCar, they air the local news in full then a shortened version of the network news on ABC. NBC usually, if the event runs to lets say 6:07 EDT then the local news collapses, and Nightly News begins on time. if it goes to 6:30 EDT, then what they do is they do Nightly News for 10 minutes on the whole network then they give the stations the option for local news at that point, but i've never see them do that. CBS i don't know.
