Was noticing something about NBC: back when they had baseball and did one of those Friday Night games as specials-it seemed to me that Johnny Carson was bumped and they'd go straight to Friday Night Videos following the local news- White Sox-Yankees game 2 August 1985 where Carlton Fisk tagged out 2 runners at the plate on the same play was example-Dave Winfield tied up the game in the bottom of the 9th with a mammoth two run homer-otherwise Carson would have aired that night. Padres at Astros was the backup game that evening- NBC likely switched that audience to the game at Yankee Syaduimn.
