I know you are being snarky here, but the underlying idea that TV news is inevitably undermined by ideological bias is I think the Big Lie at the hear of Fox News. It's not that there is not ideologicala bias in TV news, obviously there is (traditionally, ownership has been somewhat or more conservative, while working reporters tended to be somewhat or more (but, for the most part, not that much more) liberal. I grew up with liberals always complaining that all news outlets to the right of Amy Goodman were hopelessly and cravenly in the pocket of big corporations and their governmental lackeys. FN sells itself as the corrective to a MSM that is otherwise in the service of some socialist agenda. Its not that the truth is somewhere in between, it is that professionalism is a check on extremes of ideological and other kinds of bias. I may not much like the WSJ editorial page, and not trust them to identify many of the stories that need telling, but in general I find them to be a reliable and credible source of news. The tragedy of FN is that it overplays its "opnion page" section so much that the credibility of any real news professionals it might employ is hopelessly undermined.
All journalists sin and fall short of the glory of god - that is in the nature of being human. But the devaluing of professional journalism, and reliance instead on attempts to find the right balance between various ideological biases, is part of what has gotten us into our current mess. The good news is, extreme stories tend to call out the professionalism and tamp down the ideological bias. Woodward was and is a Republican, some of the roughest coverage of WJC's sex scandals came from what at the time was seen as a liberal Newsweek, and Obama received very tough coverage throughout the main stream press. The failure of the press in general, and the NYT in particular, to do its job during the build up to the Iraq War is still felt as a stain by many. I have some hope that we will see a renaissance of real journalism over the next two years, and that either the Megyn Kelly's of the world will grow into the new expectations, or be shifted to the sidelines to make room for serious professionals.
