Two of the Star Trek spinoffs - The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine - were 
big syndication hits, though not strictly weekend shows (when I lived in 
Portland, Deep Space Nine was usually on during the week).  Arguably TNG made 
it easier for the New Zealand shows (Tarzan, Xena and others) to hit big as 
well.
Babylon 5 was part of a syndication network of sorts, but I'm hazy on what the 
other programs were.

There was at one point several good weekend syndie shows- Star Search, American 
Gladiators, the WWF's syndie shows, Hee Haw, Lawrence Welk, and am i missing
