Ultimately, I don't know why anybody on Survivor matters more than anybody else, and there is still a falseness to this show that bugs me. But without knowing about the events leading up to it, outing somebody on national TV is a piss-poor tactic. The disturbing "reality" is that CBS would still have aired it had the tactic worked.
At some point we need to start looking at the psychology of what possesses people to participate in these shows, as well as the harm/backlash for both participants and viewers. There used to be senate hearings on music lyrics and videogame violence, but nobody seems to question our "right" to be embarrassed, insulted, attacked, and injured... for ratings. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/survivor-zeke-smith-outed-as-transgender-guest-column-991514 -- Kevin M.
