I disagree on that last point. While the production design has to look 
sufficiently futuristic, if "Discovery" is set in the prime timeline, there has 
to be some continuity connecting it to TOS and/or "Enterprise". And to that 
end, "Enterprise" actually did a really nice job of creating a modern 
presentation for a pre-TOS aesthetic (physical buttons & controls, manually 
triggered doors, minimal voice interaction with the computer, displays that 
hinted at what the TOS bridge displays were meant to show (given technology 
limitations at the time). You shouldn't have to throw canon into the dumpster 
for the sake of presentation.
