I posted my quickie review early yesterday and found out this morning that
Google considers it spam and a moderator has to approve it - which would be
me, the original sender. So it may show up later today or tomorrow. I think
the term that got it caught in the spam catcher was ST, which I spelled out.

I did not read about the show, or read interviews with the cast, or watch
preview videos about the show. From what I saw Sunday night I had no idea
it was supposed to be a comedy. There is value in having humor in a drama
and I thought that was what they were aiming for. The problem with the show
for me is that it suffers from an utter lack of imagination. Science
fiction lets writers and production designers break all limits and go off
in new directions. The Orville did none of that. It is stuck in a ST
template. If it is supposed to be a ST spoof it completely fails.

The CGI looked lovely, especially because my 2009 A/D converter box failed
recently, and I now have an HDTV. Stuff like the special effects on The
Orville really popped. But it was the pilot and pilots have more lead time
and bigger budgets than regular episodes. Future episodes will probably
have more dialogue and fewer effects.
