An episode of Black Mirror tackled a similar theme in an episode starring Bryce
Dallas Howard, so maybe there's a been there, done that feel to The Orville's
take (I haven't watched their effort yet).
I expected to hate The Orville so much I snarked about it at Comic-Con to the
dismay of several within earshot. Surprisingly, two episodes in and I don't
hate it. I'm not compelled to watch it (it's tough for me to care about any of
the characters), so I might not get around to watching every episode
(especially since I'm behind on Discovery).

That one was the first miss from my perspective. And yet, minus the "it's just
like modern-day Earth" part, that is one of those plots that I could totally
see TNG doing basically verbatim if it was around today.

I skipped through most of the episode where they have to rescue people on the

I dont think this show sucks; I am not a fan of McFarlane, yet I manage to
keep watching it. For a while I was afraid I would like it more than
Discovery, but that is no longer true.
