And earlier this year, a writer for the Chicago Reader who used to be
theater critic at Time Out Chicago (which is now online only) called the
man who wrote the original play, Tracy Letts, a sellout for approving
"Superior Donuts" as a TV series:

I once heard the writer say that he hates Steppenwolf Theatre, the company
Letts is based at in Chicago (home base for John Malkovich, Gary Sinese,
Laurie Metcalf and many other notables), even though he likes some of the
people. I suspect his bile is more tinged by his hatred of Steppenwolf
than anything else--and he pulls that "canned laughter" crap, even though
like almost every other multicam that isn't on Nick or Disney, it's shot
with a live audience. What is it about critics and their kneejerk "canned
laughter" attack on multicams--and why do they never accuse the late-night
shows of using laugh tracks?
