The problem with Steve’s theory is although protest fatigue might be a
factor for some, ratings in general are in a sharp decline. Older viewers
are still watching broadcast TV in the traditional manner, but older
viewers are not predisposed to watch a modern pop music award show. Those
young whipper snappers just aren’t watching TV in the standard way. I was
out and about on Sunday evening, and more than once I stood near some
nefarious youths who got text messages telling them who won a given award.
That’s enough for them. So if Steve wants to cite politics as a factor, I’d
cite age and preferred viewing methods as larger contributors to the drop.
