When American TV used to have soccer games on they would have American announcers who would assume the only people watching were young players and they would try to teach the finer points of the game which made it uncompelling to any other viewers. When NBC signed their deal this round they use British announcers and they call the games like they would call them in Britain with a rare American reference or mentioning a USMNT player if he is in the game. Even though it took me a long while to understand the Champions League, Europa League, and national team weekends, it has been a lot of fun to listen to the commentary.
