Note that I didn't say they couldn't do it. I simply declared it insulting
(by using up testing capabilities that should be available to the general
public), outrageously high risk (for US football, where there is literally
contact on every play), and catastrophically stupid (especially in college
football, where they're already violating rules that have the strength of
wet toilet tissue with social distancing that should shame the
universities). Lauren Theisen nailed it Sunday: "What if Nick Saban, faced
with a must-win game against Auburn in late November, publicly and
emphatically demands that Alabama allow a full house at Bryant-Denny? Who’s
going to tell him no?"

And it sure looks like FIFA, in their infinite wisdom, is going to keep
going with European friendlies (exhibition games) As someone noted on
Defector, even the NFL knew not to play those.

I got into a significant argument with a friend who insisted she needed her
baseball while I told her there was absolutely zero chance I would watch a
moment of Cubs baseball this year. She thinks I'm a stick in the mud. I
fundamentally consider sports to be the lowest priority. And watching
people act as if sports are deserving a moment of our energies, monies, or
efforts while everything else is completely out of control is insulting to
society.
