If both C and Ku cables were spliced, try swapping them at both ends and see if the Ku improves. If so, swap them at the splices and see which one is bad by process of elimination. Proper F connectors and F81 couplers at the splice point are ok - not ideal - but acceptable, especially since your splice is indoors. Of course one little strand of braid touching the center conductor of the coax and the splice is going to be a problem.
If SBS6 is pretty much at the top of the arc for your location, try this. Pull the on-screen signal strength meter up on the receiver. Set the dish on an active SBS6 transponder, peaked as best you can. Set your VCR to record the dish so the signal strength meter is recorded with the picture. Now go to the dish and very, very slowly push down slightly at the bottom of the reflector and hold it there for a few seconds. Then pull up very, very slowly so you're lifting the reflector slightly above it's natural resting point, holding it up for a few seconds. Let it return to center. Do the same thing left and right of center. Review the tape in the VCR and see if the signal peaked while you moved the reflector. If so, the alignment is out, either of the reflector, the pole or the feed assembly.
