it is *not* memory partitioning but *hard disk* partitioning.

The information you have given here is not enough.  Boot with one of the 
LiveCDs, open a gnome-terminal/konsole and as "root" run the 
command "fdisk -l" and share with us the output.  From what you have 
described you have a weird existing partition setup.
