Well that may be  a further problem. When the error occurs the FTP is shut
down and a reconnection is made to a backup server. What I am trying to
determine is why the FTP is coming up with an error in the first place. The
complete mechanism is a bit more complicated in that there are actually two
FTP clients both logged on to the same server. FTP0  does a LIST every 3
seconds and creates a list of items for FTP1 to GET. I will endeavour to get
the log from FTP1 to see if this gives additional information

It looks like you are opening a second FTP control connection to a different
IP address before closing the first connection.
