Time observance in Golden is indeed on the agenda for Golden Town Council's next meeting, scheduled to start next Tuesday, 1 September, at 19:00 UTC−6. The agenda item is number 10.A.b and the file number is 3710-01. https://golden.civicweb.net/Portal/MeetingInformation.aspx?Org=Cal&Id=1421
Per the Staff Report, "If considering nothing other than [the RDEK-led survey] responses, it could be argued that respondents from the Town of Golden and Area A prefer to remain on Mountain Daylight Time (which would maintain alignment with RDEK’s and Alberta’s time observance). However, with the split of preferences being so close, the stated reasons for these preferences being varied, and the potential effects of any choice having a range of impacts on residents, visitors, businesses, and institutions, there is no clear “right choice” from a staff perspective." While the full slate of options proposed include (1.i) ceasing clock changes and remaining on UTC−6 year-round, (1.ii) falling back in November and rejoining the majority of BC on UTC−7 year-round, (1.iii) continuing with the *status quo* of seasonal time changes; (2) intentionally deferring a decision (which is equivalent to 1.iii); or (3) "provid[ing] alternative direction, such as implementing permanent Golden Time (UTC−6.5)"; staff have recommended that the Council select one of the three affirmative options from (1). The Golden Staff Report can be found here with attached correspondence from RDEK: https://golden.civicweb.net/FileStorage/370000EFBF1F4D2F9F294239524088D6-RFD%20CAO%202026-09-01%20Time%20Observance.pdf It is still a bit early yet for CSRD's next board agenda. Its Electoral Area A is sometimes referred to as "Rural Golden", so it is possible its decision (pop. ~3,300) may largely follow from the Town's (pop. ~4,000). -- Tim Parenti On Fri, 21 Aug 2026 at 14:32, Tim Parenti <[email protected]> wrote: > > On Wed, 19 Aug 2026 at 19:19, Tim Parenti <[email protected]> wrote: > >> Paul and I have been in private communication with an RDEK staffer who >> assures that their IT staff is looking into it. >> > > Since the RDEK web issue appears to remain unresolved, I've attached a > patch (0002) which cites CBC coverage of RDEK's recent decision instead. > It cleans up a lot of the prior speculation while retaining the relevant > discussion for historical purposes.
