I'm thinking more about NAND on iMX6. Which doesn't support SPL (until
now). We could add a new build target for imx6 for NAND booting as well.
Not sure if this is better moved to a build target or to the imximage
generation tool?

Yes. Perhaps its best to add this to imximage.
