As part of our server strategy we are investigating possibly running
UniVerse on Linux. This seems to pose a number of questions re the type of
Linux to use.
I have obtained 10.1.1 for RedHat but our Oracle team is leaning towards
SUSE and we see that this is only listed on the Availability Matrix at
version 10.0.8
Is the matrix very out of date or is there a large difference between the
different flavours of Linux.

I'm in the process of migrating from UV 9.6.2 on IRIX to UV 10.1.1 on RedHat 3 AS. The new hardware are 2 IBM xSeries 345s in a failover configuration. I chose to go with RedHat AS because: 1) it seems to be favored by IBM in the UV porting schedule, 2) IBM has been offering RH as a preinstalled option on their servers for some time, 3) RH AS has a 24x7 support option, and 4) I've found RH to be the most frequently supported linux distro as far as peripheral device drivers (like serial termservers). I've been configuring and testing the new servers for a couple of weeks and have found the OS to be completely stable. So far UV runs all our apps as it does on the old hardware, just much faster.

I'm very impressed with the RedHat Network update notification system and the up2date utility. It's very easy to configure it to ignore updates you don't want and the update process is very quick and simple. I'm running SuSE 8.2 on a laptop at home, and the YaST and YOU update utilities are also good. I have run into some bugs on SuSE with applications that could not be updated correctly with YOU, but these problems may have been corrected in the later releases.
