Yes, that's the caveat I remember also.   The indexing is based off of the
file that it's in.   If an index in file 1 has a trans to file 2,  the file
1 index won't change if file 2 is altered.   You'd have to rebuild the index
to have the values refreshed.

Another common error I've seen over the years were timing related errors.
Indices defined in one file that point to data in file 2 where file 2 wasn't
written until after file 1.   The indices were never updated.
