Alas, an index is super fast _because_ it contains the actual data referenced, along with the keys to those records. To just store the pointers to the attributes of say 1 million records would certainly not be fast (1 million reads?) Therefore, yes, I-desc index items are dangerous. A good sysadmin would know which files have I-desc indexes, and would implement some way of keeping these updated _when_ data in them changes - even if this just means notification on a report... Of course, a trigger on the referenced file would be ideal (but we won't go there, will we?) <PRE> --------------------------------------------------------- GWK BEPERK/LIMITED (REG: 1997/022252/06) POSBUS 47 PO BOX 8730 DOUGLAS Direkteure/Directors: NB Jacobs, FJ Lawrence, J v/d S Botes, JH Coetzee, JGD Smit, JF Jacobs, AO M|ller, JW Smit, JP Snyman, JG Stander, JH van Dyk(MD/BD), JG Jacobs, A M|ller, M van Zyl, Sekr/Secr: E van Niekerk.
