The answer is that every so often if you write code like mine which adds / subtracts numbers in external format (ie with decimal points)
In our case all we are doing, and ever have done, is subtracting whole numbers from whole numbers, ie, cents from cents ie 'internal format"... No multiplication, no dividing, nothing strenuous... but still, on occasion, WideZero = 0x3dc00000 let us down.
The speed and certainty of VMarks' initial response (change it to 0x3eb00000) to our query made/makes me think it was/is more widespread ......
universe will discover an infinitesimal difference between two numbers that to our eyes (and even in truth) are absolutely identical.
