We don't have a corner on the market for redefining language to suit marketing. Just look at all of the MultiDimensional databases out there that have nothing do with MultiValue or Pick. Yes, I know MD and MV are themselves marketing inventions, but our market identity is/was defined by these terms, and now that the relational/MOLAP world distinguishes _themselves_ with these terms, our own uniqueness has been invalidated. The good news is that by unintentionally adopting our marketing-speak, they've made it easier for MV VARs to sell systems. I don't know if MV people have caught on to that yet ... When someone asks you what kind of database you have, you can now proudly say "It's MultiDimensional, just like Oracle, SQL Server, and other major players!" No need to even hide behind the "embedded" moniker.
BTW, Cache' from Intersystems is very big on using the term MultiDimensional, they mean it exactly as we mean it, and _they_ are using the term to play into the hearts of the IT world. They are also using this sibling affiliation to work their way into the hearts of MV developers. I'll be interested to hear what they have to say at Spectrum next week.
