Dont forget to check 'at' jobs as well as cron. I dont use those, but I dont think they show up in cron. I would think there is a command that you could issue using 'watch' that would show processes and i/o. You might be able to put together a small script to run overnight and collect data. That would show you whats going on. I can't think of what command you would 'watch' (ps, iostat, etc.. I dont know what shows process names. If I can think of something I will post it.
