David, Bill,

The following procedure for changing the telnet port for UV/NT outside of
UniAdmin was provided by Monolith Corp.:

Problem/Issue: Defining the UV telnet port outside of Uni Admin

Resolution/Information: The uvtelnet service in not defined in the
%SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\services or its definition is found after
the uvtelnets service.

If the uvtelnet service is not found in the services file, add a new entry,
making sure it is defined before the uvtelnets service.

If the uvtelnet service is found after the uvtelnets service definition,
move the entry before the uvtelnets entry.

The uvtelnet service should look similar to :

uvtelnet portnumber/tcp #UniVerse telnet

where port number should be replaced by the port number you wish to use.

I found the services file on our Win 2000 Pro server at
C:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\services.

The uvtelnet line is near or at the bottom of the file.

Just change the portnumber and file it. Then Stop and Restart the Universe
Services in Universe Control.

Thank you Monolith for your continued support.

hth,

Dave
