Dave, I don't know if there is a difference between Universe/.nix and Universe/NT with respect to their file restore and account restore verbs.
I do know, however, that we have been totally unable to restore an account-save or a file-save from AP, D3, mvBase or GA R91 to UV/NT. Consequently, we wrote two programs, TAPE.DUMP and TAPE.LOAD to dump and load anywhere from one individual file to selected files to all the files in an account, without having to create the files on the target machine before loading them. We have tested these programs in our office *from* AP, D3, mvBase and R91 *to* UV/NT. We have tested them *from* R91 *to* UV/NT on site and the customer is now testing their software on UV/NT. Also, if you are migrating software from mvBase to UV/NT, you may also be aware that UV/NT has no (as in none) multivalue spooler as we know it today in R83, R91, AP, D3, mvBase, MentorPro, etc. etc. The commands STARTPTR, SP-ASSIGN, SP-EDIT, :STARTSPOOLER, LISTPTR, LISTPEQS, etc either do not exist at all or function entirely differently than what you may expect in UV/NT. All print jobs are sent directly to the Windows spooler or, if elected, directly the Windows printer without going thru the Windows spooler. To preserve our customer's ability to continue to use the generic multivalue spooler architecture that he's been using for the past 20+ years, we developed a generic multivalue spooler, called SpoolerPlus(tm), for UV/NT. It contains a spooler file and these spooler commands and functions as much like a generic multivalue spooler as it can given that the printers are not connected directly to the database. In addition to the generic multivalue spooler functionality, SpoolerPlus contains a Queues file that enables you to define the print characteristic of each queue and a Printers file to enter the name of the Windows printer and the name of a printer driver for that printer. The process of assigning a printer to a print queue (STARTPTR) then executes the printer driver (if there is one) which takes the print characteristics from the print queue and print the appropriate ESC sequences to the printer to configure the printer for the print jobs from that print queue. If either of these products are of interest to you, or if you'd just like to compare notes on converting software to UV/NT, please call me for further discussion. We're almost neighbors, so an onsite demo is certainly possible. hth, Dave Dave Taylor President Sysmark Information Systems, Inc. 49 Aspen Way Rolling Hills Estates, CA 90274 800-SYSMARK (800-797-6275) (O) 310-544-1974 (P) 800-339-1497 (F) 310-377-3550 Your Source for Integrated EDI Translation and DataSync Integration www.sysmarkinfo.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dave R" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, October 05, 2005 9:08 AM Subject: [U2] Mvbase 2 Universe > I need to do an account restore from an mvBase.vtf to universe.
