Charles, Re: the NBT product:
Another mv database vendor once told me how many thousands times people has downloaded their trial product, but he could not tell me how many orders those downloads had produced. There's an old proverb in sales that says "You never get a second chance to make a good first impression". No one is going to download PE, struggle with all the documentation to get it to work and then blame him/herself for failing to understand the product. They'll blame the product. The only thing worse than offering a good product is offering a good product that appears to the evaluator to not work. My guess is that most PE products are downloaded to people in the mv community, and even they struggle (see postings to the U2 lists). This NBT product for non-mv users must be packaged with some simple applications that work out of the box, that do things that can't be done with competitive products, that wow the new users and that the new users can use in their everyday lives. So, if the target market is college students, then we need to develop some *simple* applications that college students can use every day, in a gui interface, that can be used to enter information, retrieve information and print information. We need to talk with some college students first, and maybe let then develop these applications with our help so we can see how our tools really work in the target marketplace. Just sending out a product the doesn't work for them (even though it works for us) will do more harm than not sending out anything at all.
