Hi Mark, I think we have an ideal solution for you for the following reasons:
1. Unidata dictionaries are not just the first 7 lines of the Reality dictionaries. Unidata dictionaries are structurally quite different and converting all the dict items in the application could be a real challenge, to say nothing of then supporting them in the UD environment. 2. Universe has a very nice "Reality" flavor of Pick as an option for each account and runs Reality software very nicely. 3. Depending on the number of licenses required, Universe pricing for a "trade-up" system from a competitive database may be quite comparable to QM pricing and much more robust. 4. Depending on the price of the UD Solaris and the cost of converting their software to Unidata, they may find it cheaper to put Universe on a small Windows machine. 4. Regardless of the O.S. they run on, neither Unidata or Universe offers a print spooler that is in any way comparable to their Reality spooler, and in fact offers no spooler at all on any of the Windows O.S.s. This will require extensive (costly) modification of all of their print processes and will still leave them without their print spooler functionality. 5. We installed SpoolerPlus, our generic Pick print spooler for Universe and Unidata, on a Universe system running Reality software and we expanded SpoolerPlus to honor named printers and named print queues and the syntax of the Reality versions on the SP-ASSIGN and STARTPTR commands, which they use in the Reality O.S,. and they had to make no modifications to any of their print processes running on Universe. 6. We also have programs that will move Pick-based software, one account at a time, from their database to Universe via a compatible tape drive. 7. We are an authorized IBM reseller and will be glad to work with you as a consultant for us in the sale of Universe or Unidata to your customer and we will compensate you accordingly for both the sale of both the database and SpoolerPlus. As a consultant for us, you will also have direct access to the IBM Knowledgebase to support your conversion efforts. 8. You can do as much of the conversion work as you wish in your direct relationship with your customer for these services and we will support you in that effort. I think this will be a successful and cost-effective solution for your customer and I look forward to discussing it with you.
