David,

R83 ran as a native database directly on the hardware, not on a separate O.S., so I have to believe that you have a .vtf file from a D3 system that was made using the C option for backware compatibility with R83.

There is a utility called d3conv that will preprocess a d3 account save so that it can be restored onto Universe using uvrestore.

But, I have no idea how it would handle a D3 account save made with the C option.

And, I don't know if your vtf is an account save or a file save of several accounts, some of which you wish to recover.

If you can restore this vtf onto some mv database, like D3 perhaps, we have a suite of programs called FileCaddy, and consisting of TAPE.DUMP and TAPE.LOAD, that will dump all the files in a mv account to tape and then load them into a Universe account as a group, recreating each file as it goes if it does not exist.

I'll be glad to discuss this further offline if you wish.

hth,

Dave

Subject: [U2] Method to read 'r83' vtf file

We are moving several proceses to Universe (windows). We would really like to be able to import a couple accounts with datafiles into Universe from a
  'r83' vtf file.

Is this possible? If so where can I find the information. I have been
looking in the pdfs but there does not seem to be anything specific.

  Thanks
