Tim, UD 6.0.6 (but, if I remember correctly, this was true on the release 5 that we came from as well, and our standard policy is to uninstall and re-install Unidata for a new release, which should have replaced CTLGTB). This being my first experience with the Unidata flavor, I thought it was standard behavior - annoying but standard. So, rather than set up what I thought was a non-standard synonym (and have to set up on all the customer machines as well, if one of my colleagues started using it), I was just avoiding editing lists.
The synonym entry in the VOC does work as expected. Susan M. Lynch F.W.
