Hi all, I've read a lot about the out-of-the-box issues with speech in 9.04 but am still having issues.
I have a clean 9.04 install and am of course having the problems with Orca/espeak stuttering and generally not working. So after a clean reinstall I first put the .pulse_a11y_nostart file in my home directory. This did stop Pulseaudio working but I lost all speech. I presume I need configure Gnome-speech to talk to Alsa? I also on another clean install did a apt-get remove of pulseaudio with similar results. I also noticed that other software speech engines such as Dectalk and Cepstral also aren't working properly, which I presume indicates the Pulseaudio issue is not specific to eSpeak. So can anyone advise on a definitive way of getting a clean 9.04 to start talking nicely?
