Wvdial or any other tool wont be able to detect any modem unless the device
is recognized by kernel.
Normally All Nokia Phone Modems are recognized by kernel.

Check if you have a device like /dev/modem or /dev/ttyACM* or /dev/ACM*
while the modem is connected to computer and operating as a modem. If there
is a device, it can be configured unless its malfunctioned.

<http://prothom-aloblog.com/users/base/lenin/6>I have seen a comment in
http://prothom-aloblog.com/users/base/lenin/6 says someone used mobidata
modem in linux to connect to Internet. Can you tell me how? AFAIK the driver
for linux is given for Redhat. Not Ubuntu. And It doesnt work in Ubuntu.

Thanks
