If hard disk is repartitioned, then it has everything to do with grub, unless the boot partition remains same. CRC or redundancy check error happens also for not finding the boot partition as well as dying hard disk. Also, if you change the master/slave or primary/secondary IDE connection, this could happen. In this case, I agree that hard disk is dying most probably. -- M.
