This clearly sounds like a hardware error for you. Making sure your hardware contacts are just as it has no loose contacts is HUGEly important. And its the ideal situation after which others can base on.
Now, if there's no hardware errors present but you see a 'Kernel Panic' error: 1. First try to checkdisk from your BIOS or HDD's utility. Wihich helps to rebuild/repair the damage done. 2. use diskcheck utilities to fix any lost clusters etc. 3. recovery from Live CD will help to rebuild kernel and other sections again.
