Actually, I can't confirm this behaviour. i can get the splash screen to
work after enabling it in the gnome-splashscreen-manager, and it toggles
the gconf key /apps/gnome-session/options/show_splash_screen correctly.
Could you please post the output of:
gconftool-2 -g /apps/gnome-session/options/show_splash_screen (after
enabling it)
