Hi dmh309.
I have tried to change this bug status so that it's NOT a duplicate of #295103
which I hope works. Having read #295103 it is indeed a simpler bug and fixing
that wouldn't guarantee getting the big ShutDown or Restart problem looked at,
especially as there seems to be a definite reluctance to sort it out in #24995,
despite this 'show stopper' having existed throughout development and even
being temporarily solved in the Alpha-6 release and then reappearing in the
Beta and formal release versions.
Meanwhile, I will respond to the #295103 report, in case that helps solve
that problem.
Please forgive my apparent cynicism but I noticed that linking reports to
lesser, still not solved problems in Ubuntu 8.04 development only succeeded in
scoring 'brownie points', creating the illusion of progress whilst delaying
effort and risking release rejection by users.
I hope that all makes sense.
