I removed all the plugins, but that didn't stop the crashing.
Finally, I followed the workaround:
"Add this line to the ~/.galeon/mozilla/galeon/prefs.js file:
user_pref("general.useragent.vendorSub", "1.3.21");
"
This allows galeon to start.
I then reinstalled all the plugins I could find on synaptic.
Now when I get this from galeon:
