The traceback you posted before, and I commented on showed flash,
realplayer and java, along with their paths.

I have no idea what you exactly did, and why. If you installed 3rd party
repositories, chances are not bad that they cause intereference with
upgrades. We cannot support upgrades from systems with 3rd party
repositories enabled, that's why I rejected this bug. Sorry.

If you didn't have installed 3rd party packages, creating a new user on
your machine would start from fresh. Otherwise I cannot give you exact
instructions how to uninstall because I have no idea what you have
exactly done. Therefore I can only say that reinstalling is a safe
choice.

Hey, we all have learned it the one way or the other ;)

sorry for the trouble you are experiencing. We are currently working
very hard on improving upgrades with 3rd party packages enabled, but you
understand that this is a very hard task and needs much user feedback.
Moreover we try to improve the multimedia experience in ubuntu. You
could help us by filing and triaging bugs, and encourage upstream
developers to actually work on them!
