I do not see how this could help since it seems that there is an 
interaction between the daemon and Gnome Screen Resolution which 
recreates monitor.xml as below.
I would be nice to be able to disable the NVIDIA driver under 'hardware 
drivers' but that doesn't work - after disabling 'allegedly' the NVIDIA
driver is still in use - xorg.conf still shows 'nvidia'
