I just checked openSUSE 2008.11 and this problem exists there, too. I suppose it's too complicated to be fixed by Ubuntu team. As I see no feedback at bugs.freedesktop.org, I have one more question: is there any problem with downgrading X.org to 7.3 version in Intrepid? Are there any problems with dependencies etc.? If not, I can try this solution; if yes, I have to switch back to Hardy, unfortunately... and watch out next time when buying notebook not to choose one with SiS graphics card...
