The funny thing is that there are always 2 instances of gnome display manager working:
r...@thomas-laptop:/home/thomas# pidof gedit r...@thomas-laptop:/home/thomas# pidof gnome-terminal 5823 r...@thomas-laptop:/home/thomas# pidof gdm 5164 5161 r...@thomas-laptop:/home/thomas# This is the same in jaunty as in Intrepid. This problem remains after the initial gedit and openoffice.org problem is resolved. I suspect this could be related to gdm, as well as the compiz.real bugs. I stopped having these compiz.real bugs in the newer kernels. At the moment (intrepid alfa's and beta) I attributed it to the consolekit segfaulting thing, but since James Westby and others fixed that, my consolekit bugs reoccured. I was however still able to reproduce the same crash as experienced in the compiz.real and compiz-plugins-stuff bugs by the commands I used to investigate these bugs, e.g. metacity --replace ; compiz --replace ; xsession-manager --replace or compiz | sudo compiz and more stuff like that. I think now that I was wrong to suspect consolekit and that I am in fact experiencing a gdm problem that is either hardware specific, or results from conflicts with other packages (xserver-xorg and such?). Anyway, I will now shut down the gdb session and open up some new <gnome-terminal>'s. Then I try the attach pidof gdb one more time. Then it is strace and valgrind, then I install gdm-dbgsym. -- gedit fails to run as root in jaunty https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/311237 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
