Ok,

strace gives a ridiculous amount of output. Have fun.

tho...@thomas-laptop:~$ ls -la ~/strace-gedit.log
-rw-r--r-- 1 thomas thomas 63621 2009-01-11 14:19 /home/thomas/strace-gedit.log
tho...@thomas-laptop:~$ nano ~/strace-gedit.log
tho...@thomas-laptop:~$ strace -Ff -tt gedit
~/Desktop/gdb-gedit-debugfile-with-garbage-in-it-and-not-my-private-passwords
2>&1 | tee strace-gedit.log

r...@thomas-laptop:/home/thomas# ls -la /home/thomas/strace-gedit.log
-rw-r--r-- 1 thomas thomas 63621 2009-01-11 14:19 /home/thomas/strace-gedit.log
r...@thomas-laptop:/home/thomas# chmod 666 -c /home/thomas/strace-gedit.log
mode of `/home/thomas/strace-gedit.log' changed to 0666 (rw-rw-rw-)
r...@thomas-laptop:/home/thomas# chown 1000 -c /home/thomas/strace-gedit.log
r...@thomas-laptop:/home/thomas# nano /home/thomas/strace-gedit.log
r...@thomas-laptop:/home/thomas# strace -Ff -tt gedit
/home/thomas/Desktop/gdb-gedit-debugfile-with-garbage-in-it-and-not-my-private-passwords
 2>&1 | tee strace-gedit-root.log

Now gdm-dbgsym and attach either one in root gdb session and do gedit in
my 1000 gnome-terminal, then the other way around, so four takes total,
after that screenshot, after that dpkg-reconfigure -au.

Cheers,

Thomas
