Okay, attaching several files.  dmidecode.txt generated as you
requested.  lshal_1.txt is the output of lshal after removing all usb-
related modules and then reloading them while the usb device was not
plugged into the monitor.  However, this seems to have left the system
in a state where it couldn't recognize the usb device even once.
lshal_2.txt is the output of lshal after removing all usb-related
modules and then reloading them while the usb device *was* plugged into
the monitor.  This caused the system to notice the usb device right
away.  The first time I unplugged the usb device and tried plugging it
back in, it wasn't recognized.  lshal_3.txt is the output of lshal after
that.  lshal_m.txt is the output of running lshal -m while all that was
going on.
