Dear Chris

I attach a spreadsheet that will save as a 2.4 ods file but not as a
3.0.1 ods file. This indicates that it is a graph with multiple single
cells in the Y and Category ranges that was the cause of my problem.

The original spreadsheet that caused me to report my experiences is much
more complex. It analyses downloaded personal banking information using
database functions & criteria tables with regular expressions and also
makes extensive use of conditional formatting. Given the error message
information I did not immediately recognise this solution. However, in
response to your request for an example document I set about deleting
the personal information and in doing so I discovered a solution.

The data for the bar graph that I wanted to present is in 12 cells in a
row. The 12 cells are spaced 5 columns apart. The blank columns between
the cells are hidden but necessary to accommodate criteria tables and
maintain a structure to the spreadsheet that allows criteria tables to
be copied and pasted. This led to an odd appearance of the graph with
the bars spaced excessively far apart. In Excel hiding columns controls
fixes this, but not in earlier versions of OO. So to fix the appearance
issue I used of 12 single cells instead of a range for the graph Y and
Category ranges.

I am delighted to see that OO now behaves like Excel - hiding empty
cells / data changes the appearance of graphs. To fix the problem with
my spreadsheet all I needed to do was delete my graph and re-create it
with single ranges in place of the 12 single cells.

I hope that this helps and thank you for your interest and support.

Best regards

Paul Browning
