Fixed it:
1) use latest official language-pack-kde-es
2) KDE_LANG=es kontact
3) Issue appears
4) Upgrade language-pack-kde-es from the ubuntu-langpack PPA
5) Issue disappears
Please do a bump comment if this doesn't get fixed within the next month
or so, I tend to lose track on translation issues way to easily :)
